Abstract
Palladium-catalyzed/norbornene-mediated direct functionalization of carbazoles is disclosed. The method offers an approach to a wide variety of alkyl- and alkenyl-substituted biologically interesting carbazole derivatives from carbazole halides, alkyl halides, and acrylates. Three new C–C bonds are formed at 2-, 3-, and 4-positions of carbazoles via two C–H activation reactions and a Heck-type functionalization in one pot.
