Abstract
A folded sequence of Upper Cretaceous Franciscan turbidite graywackes east of San Jose forms the core of the Diablo antiform and structurally underlies Franciscan melange. Measured paleocurrent indicators at 201 outcrops are mostly cross-bedding, parting lineations, and ripple crests. Paleocurrent directions were recovered by stereonet rotations about local fold axes. General flow was toward the southwest, but in detail it bends in individual turbidite channels, and divergence between channel and leveeoverbank flow is discernible. The strata are interpreted as channeled midfan deposits of a subsea fan.
