Abstract
The approximations of the intermediate coupling method are applied to a model of the self-field of a single nucleon (interacting with a pseudoscalar meson field) in which only processes involving pair creation and annihilation are allowed. In order to do this a method of subtracting the vacuum before these approximations are made, is suggested. The magnetic moment of the self-field on this model is investigated, and a comparison is made with the antithetic model of the self-field in which only processes not involving pair creation or annihilation are allowed.
