Abstract
Angiotensin-I converting enzyme (ACE) is a key component of renin-angiotensin system (RAS), and its association with cognitive impairments in brain disorders has been recently recognized. Higher ACE activity in plasma of chronic patients with schizophrenia (SCZ) compared with healthy controls (HCs) paired by sex and age, and the relevance of ACE activity in SCZ was suggested by us. We now propose a translational analysis to understand how SCZ pharmacotherapy with antipsychotics can affect the ACE activity in clinical samples and animal model for SCZ studies.
