Abstract

The light‐emitting diode (LED) backlight has been the biggest energy consumer in liquid crystal display (LCD) panels. As screen resolution and luminance requirements increase, the energy consumed by the LED backlight increases as well. Efficiency performance is limited with existing conventional LED boost drivers on the market, and a new type of LED boost driver architecture is needed for an efficiency performance breakthrough. This paper discusses a new LED boost architecture with breakthrough performance and its advantage over conventional LED boost drivers.
