Abstract

A novel asymmetric compensation structure including one biaxial film and two hybrid discotic layers for the high transmittance through wide viewing angle performance improvement in A-OCB panel was discussed. We fabricated 15.0″ XGA OCB panel and evaluated various electro-optical characteristics such as the transmittance-voltage, viewing angle and response time. In addition, we studied the LC capacitance-voltage characteristic in OCB mode and found that it was superior to that of other LC modes and helped its own fast response characteristic.
