Abstract

Oxotitanium(IV) complexes were prepared by treating oxotitanium(IV) perchlorate with thiocarbohydrazone in a methanolic medium. The complexes are orange-yellow in colour and have 1:1 stoichiometry of the type TiO · L. Titanium(IV) complexes were prepared by reacting titanium(IV) chloride (anhydrous) with thiocarbohydrazone in an anhydrous chloroform medium. These are reddish brown in colour and conform to a 1:1 stoichiometry of the type TiL · Cl 2. L in both cases stands for a doubly deprotonated ligand. IR and proton magnetic resonance (PMR) spectral studies suggest that the oxotitanium(IV) complexes have a coordination number of five whereas titanium(IV) complexes have a coordination number of six.
