Abstract

The copper oxidation state was determined from bond valence sums and X-ray absorption near edge structure for the simple T' structure. There is a similarity in the overall dependence of copper valence with respect to the lattice constant, a, for both XANES as well as BVS. The XANES data confirm electron diffraction and pair distribution function measurements which show that the local structure is significantly distorted from the average T' structure.
