Abstract

Sinusitis is a common and frequent otolaryngological disease. For its high morbidity, sinusitis has become a global public health problem, leading to heavy health burden and social costs. Epidemiological studies suggest that as a main factor of indoor air pollution, tobacco smoke plays an important role in the upper respiratory tract diseases such as sinusitis. Tobacco smoke can damage the integrity of sinonasal mucous epithelia and innate immune functions to induce or aggravate sinusitis. This article reviews the impact and pathogenesis of sinusitis induced by tobacco smoke, to provide a basis for prevention and treatment of this disease.
