Abstract

East Japan Railway Company (JR East) is making efforts to save energy and reduce CO <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf> emissions on railways. As part of this efforts, JR East has pushed forward installation of regenerative energy utilizing equipment such as stationary energy storage systems and regenerative inverters. In this paper, the results of installation of those equipment and the verification of effects by the installation in JR East are reported. As one of the substantial result, it has been confirmed that 2 to 8 % of the feeding energy at substations was saved. Furthermore, a simplified method for predicting the effect of installing regenerative energy utilizing equipment is mentioned.
