Abstract

Two presentations were named Outstanding Student Papers in the Geomagnetism and Paleomagnetism Section at the 1994 Spring Meeting.Stuart Gilder, who presented “Constraints on the Tectonic Evolution of South China From Isotopic Mapping of the Nanling Granite Field,” recently received his Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from the University of California at Santa Cruz. He holds a B.A. in geology from San Francisco State University and an M.S. in geology from the University of Texas at El Paso. Since studying at Fudan University in Shanghai in 1985, his research has focused on the tectonics of Asia. He often incorporates paleomagnetism, isotope geochemistry, and field‐based structural work, and he is currently using the diamond anvil cell to determine the magnetic character of the high‐pressure phases of iron.
