Abstract

The better glass formability and outstanding magnetocaloric effect of the Fe85Co3Zr5B4Nb3 metallic glass were reported in this paper. The Fe85Co3Zr5B4Nb3 glassy ribbon exhibits a low reduced glass transition temperature but a large parameter Ī³, a rather high super cooled liquid region and a critical section thickness up to ~1.4 mm. The peak values for the magnetic entropy change and adiabatic temperature rise of the glassy alloy are larger than those of other Fe-based glassy alloys near 340 K, both of which indicate that the Fe85Co3Zr5B4Nb3 metallic glass is one of the best candidates for magnetic refrigerant near 340 K.
