Abstract

The article reports on a study of children's responses to the oral Rotavirus vaccine in Pakistan and the Netherlands, which suggests that regional differences in response could be due to the diversity of microbes in children's intestinal tracts and to the presence of Proteobacteria. According to immunologist Bali Pulendran, proteins called flagellin in Proteobacteria might augment immune cell activity and improve the effectiveness of the Rotavirus vaccine.
