Abstract
We evaluated the impact of osteoarthritis (OA) pain on outcomes and costs in an employed population using data from the 2009 US National Health and Wellness Survey. Our study included measures of health status (SF-12v2 physical and mental component summary scores, and the SF-6D), productivity (Work Productivity and Impairment questionnaire), and questions on healthcare utilization. Indirect costs were estimated from median annual income (Bureau of Labor Statistics), and direct costs were estimated by multiplying units of resource categories by average cost of the resource.
