Abstract

3D mesh data obtained by 3D scanner has self-intersection surface because of 3D scanner error and mesh generation error. These mesh data that include self-intersection can't be used for 3D printing and FEM, etc. Therefore, self-intersection need to be removed. In this paper, a new self-intersection removing Algorithm is presented. The proposed algorithm has four processes. First, detect self-intersection surfaces. Second, divide to detect surfaces. Third, judge divide surface is inner or outer. Fourth, delete inner and burying surface. This proposed algorithm could remove self-intersection surface in 3D mesh data without changing original shape. So this method is more accurate than the conventional method with regard to outer shape.
