Abstract

This study presents an excerpt of a research about the roles fulfilled by the publisher, the editor and the proofreader in literary texts, developed as a final paper for the graduation conclusion of Letras – Portuguese and literature – Bacharelado course. In order to accomplish this research, theoretical works regarding editing of texts, such as Houaiss (1983), Araújo (2008) and Ribeiro (2016), were chosen for a critical reading of the bibliographic material and the consequent proposition of new definitions. After this reflection, proposals for the definition of the publisher, the editor and proofreader are done according to the comparison of the theoretical reference. And lastly, we expose our conclusion, which highlights the lack of research related to the editing of literary texts and suggests new studies supported by our results.
