Abstract

A theoretical discussion based on molecular-orbital theory is applied to possible complexes of transition metals with various five and six-membered ring systems containing hetero-atoms or groups. The bonding in certain cyclopentadienone and p-benzoquinone iron-complexes is discussed in the light of the above theory. It is suggested that complexes of the heavier transition metals and normal heterocyclic systems will be unstable.
