This paper examines the organizational features concerning the implementation of digital technologies in mechanical engineering production. When introducing advanced technologies into the production process, the main attention is usually paid to technical aspects, and insufficient attention is paid to organizational and economic aspects. The authors show that organizational factors are no less important than technical ones because they can generate transaction costs, the amount of which can level the economic effect caused by the introduction of new technologies. The machine-building production development testifies that together with technical innovations, organizational innovations were created, which contributed to the disclosure of the potential available for new technologies in the production system. By the example of machine-building enterprises, it is shown, that ignoring the organizational factors reduces the efficiency of modern digital technologies and requires additional costs for their implementation. A comprehensive approach to the implementation of advanced digital technologies is necessary to avoid unnecessary costs and to increase the efficiency of their use.

ObjectiveTo assess the current status of digital technology (DT) implementation in prosthodontics post-graduate (PG) programs in Saudi Arabian dental institutions.MethodologyA 19-item survey was created using Google forms and the link was emailed to the 29 prosthodontics PG program directors (advanced clinical training and joint program) in Saudi Arabia. The questionnaire contained five Sect. 1) didactic training and DT usage in PG preclinical, clinical and laboratory training, 2) incorporation of DT in PG program, 3) utilization of DT and the types of cases treated by PG students during their course, 4) information on the faculties involved in prosthodontics PG education, and 5) potential challenges encountered and program directors’ satisfaction of the PG program. Descriptive statistics was used to present the frequencies and proportions, and Chi square inferential test was used to compare the participants’ response based on the type of PG programs (α = 0.05).ResultsOnly 28 program directors responded to the survey, yielding a 95.5% response rate. Among the program directors, 24 (85.7%) and 4 (14.3%) directors supervised the advanced clinical training and joint programs, respectively. Among the DT, CAD/CAM was the most used technology (50–80%), followed by intra-oral scanning (28–96%). Digital technology implementation was largely limited by lack of resources or equipment (67%), cost (53%) and scarcity of PG teaching staff (46%). A significant difference was observed between the programs regarding the mandatory use of DT for their cases (p = 0.03).ConclusionsThis multi-institutional survey of program directors revealed that DT is continuously implemented in the last few years. Saudi dental institutions must prioritize implementing and utilizing DT in PG training to graduate competent prosthodontists in this fast-paced digital era. While DT is pivotal in dental education, its implementation is limited in many institutions due to resources or equipment, cost, and lack of trained faculty.

  • Maiia Zhelikhovska

In a globalized world characterized by technological changes, interactions between economic and social actors are crucial to exploit market opportunities and maximize resource efficiency. The digital transformation of the economy creates the prerequisites for the emergence of technological tools with fundamentally new properties, which are driven by the industrial implementation of artificial intelligence technologies, cloud computing and other innovative products. Production and logistics systems that support the life cycle of promising technical systems are also becoming active components of a single network of intelligent machines operating on the basis of Internet technologies. The problems of logistics remain relevant, because the successful functioning of any organization and its competitiveness directly depend on the competent interaction of all subsystems of the enterprise, including the logistics one. Organizations that cannot adapt to today’s information exchange and business process management requirements will find it harder to add value to their products and services. Digital transformation is a leading trend that reflects the development vector of the economy and society as a whole. The implementation of digital technologies in the logistics processes of the enterprise should be considered as an integral part of the development of the logistics system and the enterprise in general in modern conditions. The implementation of modern digital technologies in logistics activities leads to changes in business models and strategic planning; improves interaction between all participants of the logistics process; increases the productivity of activities and, as a result, increases the competitiveness of logistics enterprises in the market. In the conditions of rapid digitization, there is a need to master current delivery channels and formats, analyze big data, automate processes, implement blockchain and robots. The logistics industry is becoming one of the drivers of digitalization.

Digital Technologies for Schizophrenia Management: A Descriptive Review
  • Jan 1, 2021
  • Science and Engineering Ethics
  • Olga Chivilgina + 2 more

While the implementation of digital technology in psychiatry appears promising, there is an urgent need to address the implications of the absence of ethical design in the early development of such technologies. Some authors have noted the gap between technology development and ethical analysis and have called for an upstream examination of the ethical issues raised by digital technologies. In this paper, we address this suggestion, particularly in relation to digital healthcare technologies for patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders. The introduction of digital technologies in psychiatry offers a broad spectrum of diagnostic and treatment options tailored to the health needs and goals of patients’ care. These technologies include wearable devices, smartphone applications for high-immersive virtual realities, smart homes, telepsychiatry and messaging systems for patients in rural areas. The availability of these technologies could increase access to mental health services and improve the diagnostics of mental disorders.Additional Instruction In this descriptive review, we systematize ethical concerns about digital technologies for mental health with a particular focus on individuals suffering from schizophrenia. There are many unsolved dilemmas and conflicts of interest in the implementation of these technologies, such as (1) the lack of evidence on efficacy and impact on self-perception; (2) the lack of clear standards for the safety of their daily implementation; (3) unclear roles of technology and a shift in the responsibilities of all parties; (4) no guarantee of data confidentiality; and (5) the lack of a user-centered design that meets the particular needs of patients with schizophrenia. mHealth can improve care in psychiatry and make mental healthcare services more efficient and personalized while destigmatizing mental health disorders. To ensure that these technologies will benefit people with mental health disorders, we need to heighten sensitivity to ethical issues among mental healthcare specialists, health policy makers, software developers, patients themselves and their proxies. Additionally, we need to develop frameworks for furthering sustainable development in the digital technologies industry and for the responsible usage of such technologies for patients with schizophrenia in the clinical setting. We suggest that digital technology in psychiatry, particularly for schizophrenia and other serious mental health disorders, should be integrated into treatment with professional supervision rather than as a self-treatment tool.

  • Jan 1, 2022
  • Zhanna A Telegina + 2 more

With the globalization of the food market, Russian agricultural production is under competitive bilateral pressure from the intensified implementation of high-intensity digital technology and increased environmental requirements of the market. The authors examine the prospects for improving the investment attractiveness of the regional agro-industrial complex (AIC) in the implementation of digital technology, taking into account the capabilities of the federal center and the features of the Russian regions. The research uses the method of synthesis of various theoretical approaches to determining the investment attractiveness of agribusiness. Additionally, the authors implement the simulation approach allowing them to build a model of the investment mechanism in the industry on a digital platform. The agricultural sector of the economy depends on the completeness and promptness of government subsidies. This sector is marked with significant financial risks that reduce its investment attractiveness. The authors note that digital technology influences agriculture and rapidly turns it into a kind of biotech business corporation. Therefore, gradual changes occur in the type of structure and features of attracting investment in innovative agriculture, which involves higher profitability and turnover of resources on a digital platform. The agricultural sector transforms in a strategic direction different from the traditional functioning of the industry. Moreover, the qualitative content of the food basket is also changing. In this regard, it seems reasonable to clarify the mechanisms of functioning of producers in the framework of digital technology, the implementation of which will increase the investment attractiveness of the Russian agricultural sector for domestic and foreign investors. Principles and methods affecting the activation and increase in the inflow of investment resources in agriculture are presented on the example of the Ural Federal District. The authors believe that the investment mechanism in the agricultural sector should be transformed, taking into account the modification of the portfolio of financial instruments and the integration of the efforts of financial institutions to balance and optimize the flow of funds for the transition of the industry to a digital platform.KeywordsAgribusinessInfrastructureInvestment attractivenessRegionAgricultureDigital technologyJEL ClassificationC89D24D81E62

  • Kateryna Kraus

A country’s digital competitiveness is regarded as its ability to promote the creation and implementation of modern digital technologies in the socio-economic, political, legal, and business life of members of society, leading to profound changes in state institutions, business models, and society as a whole. The purpose of scientific research is to characterize the priority areas of activity of countries in strengthening digital transformation and increasing digital competitiveness, as well as to outline effective ways to potentially increase the level of digital competitiveness of countries around the world. Methodology. The study was conducted on the basis of various methods, including: dialectical – to compare the scientific views of researchers on the importance of digital competitiveness of countries for their economic development and identify factors for its strengthening; systemic – to assess practical solutions, tools, and results of increasing the level of digital competitiveness of countries; graphical – to visually present the dynamics of changes in the overall rating of digital competitiveness of individual countries of the world as a whole and in terms of individual factors of influence; methods of analysis and synthesis – to review successful projects of the Program EU “Digital Europe” and the characteristics of “High Impact Projects” that stimulate the digital transformation of EU countries; comparison and generalization – to identify obstacles to the creation and implementation of innovations in Europe, and to develop practical measures to increase the digital competitiveness of countries. Result. The current Program EU “Digital Europe” for 2021–2027 was characterized, and it was found that modern technical and technological changes affect various spheres of life of members of society (education, medicine, production, trade, etc.) and become the driving forces of digital changes in the economy. Given the opportunities and challenges that arise during the creation, dissemination, and implementation of digital technologies in various spheres of socio-economic life of society, the work compares scientific approaches to understanding the category of “digital competitiveness”. Based on the IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking 2023 data, a comprehensive analysis of the dynamics of changes in the digital competitiveness rating of individual countries of the world (TOP-10) was conducted in 2021–2023, both in general and in terms of factors influencing it, which made it possible to identify growth points and drivers for the future strengthening of competitiveness in the digital era. Practical implications. The paper summarizes practical steps, effective tools, and expected consequences of digital transformation, which is currently crucial for the economic stability and prosperity of countries. Factor analysis of the digital competitiveness rating showed that it directly depends, firstly, on technologies, and therefore it is necessary to strengthen the technological independence and identity of countries, strengthen their technological framework, and secondly, on the readiness of countries for the digital future – the ability to adapt, build digital infrastructure, and strengthen IT integration. Value/originality consists in visualizing the categorical apparatus associated with the digital competitiveness of countries, which expands the understanding of the drivers of ensuring such competitiveness in the context of globalization and innovation, outlines the state of development of the digital economy in individual countries of the world, and indicates the areas of socio-economic life of members of society that are undergoing changes under the influence of technical and technological transformations.
