Abstract

Though internationalization by emerging market firms has gained immense attention by scholars across the globe, not much attention is given to their organizational design aspect in new landscape. To that end, we address the question that how these newcomers in internationalization domain can learn from the organizational architecture design from the examples of global firms in a developed market context. In this article, we do an inductive study with the help of fifteen European firms which have exhibited successful internationalization incessantly. Based on the parallels between the internationalization of these sample firms and the motives of the emerging market acquirers, we find configurations in organizational architecture which can be of help to realize strategic motives of internationalization by emerging market multi-nationals (EM MNE). We develop a summary frame-work to summarize the learnings.
