Abstract

Organisational culture plays an important role in the formulation and implementation of firm strategies and in determining performance, but its influence has tended to be neglected in the hospitality management literature. The paper firstly defines and discusses the major elements of organisational culture and investigates the links between organisational culture, firm strategy and performance. It then explores these links as they exist in a newly opened resort hotel on Bintan Island, Indonesia. The paper concludes with a discussion of some issues for further research into the role of organisational culture in strategic hotel management.
