Abstract

Natural dyes have been used as a coloring component on natural composites for wide range of applications such as textile, fashion, cosmetic products and in paints. The aim of present investigation is to dye cotton composite material with natural dye composite through cleaner method. A novel plant source Crotalaria globosa, a weed, is selected to dye cotton fabric using traditional and pad dyeing process by pre-, post- and simultaneous- mordanting techniques. The range of colours obtained on cotton fabric is evaluated using CIELAB (L*a*b*C*) coordinates and concentration of dye absorption is analyzed by using K/S values. The fastness properties are ranging from good to excellent. The results indicated that a broad variation in shade and colour depth can be achieved by applying the composite dyeing, and it also provided a suitable method to enrich the color of the natural dyes on cotton.
