Abstract

Menopause refers to the years of hormonal change before and after the last spontaneous menstruation, thus ending the woman's fertility phase. For many women this period in their life is associated with a variety of predictable symptoms and conditions such as hot flashes and night sweats. This may lead to impairment of quality of life. Additionally, oral problems migh occur. Thus, oral therapists should be aware of them. The impact of menopausal hormone changes on the oral system seems plausible for several biological reasons leading to reduction of salivary flow and epithelial keratinization, redness or bleeding during cleaning
