Abstract

The properties of an A-D converter are fully described by its characteristic, having the form of a step-like curve and determined by the set of centroid and partition values. These values should be properly chosen in order to minimize the quantization noise. This nonlinear optimization problem can be solved in several ways. One special method resulting from the general optimization procedure for step-like approximations, using particular orthogonal expansions is presented in the paper. The Possibility of adaptation to the varying probabilistic distributions of the Signal and noise is indicated. The problem is considered in one-and multidimensional cases and for linear and nonlinear conversion laws
