Abstract

This study presents the results of a simulation study based upon the VAPEX process for heavy oil production at one of the sandstone heavy oil reservoirs. The field is currently producing oil using electrical submersible pumps. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of different amounts of propane on the efficiency of the vapor extraction process as an alternative enhanced oil recovery. The results revealed that the higher amounts of propane in the solvent mixture led to increase the recovery factor. However, it was shown that the lower amounts of propane increase the recovery, significantly.
