Abstract

The optimization of the reordering point of raw materials and maintenance spare parts is a problem extensively studied in the academic field, but poorly solved in the context of plant management. Most small or medium sized enterprises do not have tools to establish appropriate reordering policies. This paper focuses on the problem of the optimization of reordering points through the usage of Discrete Event Simulation software combined with Simulated Annealing. The program has been used to optimize the reordering points of a plastic manufacturing company obtaining satisfactory results.
