Abstract

This paper presents optimal placement of multiple Static Var Compensators (SVC) using the self-adaptive firefly algorithm (SAFA). SAFA discovers the optimal locations to place the SVC and quantity of reactive power support of SVC. The performance of SVC is analyzed by considering different single objectives. They are minimization of real power loss, improvement of voltage profile (VP) and voltage stability (VS) enhancement. The feasibility of the SAFA is experienced with IEEE 14 node system. Comparative results are presented through the solution obtained by the other algorithms to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed SAFA.
