Abstract

An optimal control problem is formulated to control the growth of an age-dependent population in a deterministic environment. Birth rate is used as a control variable. Classical variational calculus is applied to derive a set of equations representing necessary conditions, and these equations are uncoupled so as to obtain a feedback control law.
