Abstract

The waveguide properties of CdS nanoribbons have been studied spectroscopically and quantitatively. The locally produced band-edge photoluminescence could effectively travel several hundred micrometers along a single CdS nanoribbon (see image), and the emission band showed a significant red-shift with increasing traveling distance. A band-tail mechanism was proposed to describe this waveguide behavior in the CdS nanoribbons.
