Abstract

We have implemented an optical manipulation system based on femtosecond laser tweezers for biological research. Stable optical trapping of human red blood cells was observed. We measured the optical trapping capability of the femtosecond laser tweezers in comparison with continuous-wave laser tweezers. Photodynamic therapy based on two-photon excitation at single cell level was also performed on our system.
