Abstract

Abstract This paper describes the optical properties of CdS : Li films prepared by a chemical-deposition method. The films were found to be polycrystalline in nature, containing a mixture of the α-hexagonal and β-cubie forms of CdS. They were studied for their optical properties in the visible region for various film thicknesses, and the optical constants—absorption coefficient, refractive index and absorption index—were evaluated from transmittance data as functions of wavelength in the visible region. The optical bandgap and the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric constant were also evaluated.
