Abstract

Summary form only given. Optical fiber voltage sensors are of considerable interest to the electric power industry, among other reasons due to their significantly smaller size and weight as well as their potentially lower costs as compared to conventional voltage transformers. Here, we present an optical voltage sensor that determines the voltage of 420 kV air-insulated ac electric power systems by a quasi line integration of the electric field between ground and high-voltage potential.
