Abstract

Short-wave infrared (SWIR) imagers have become popular in recent times for long-range surveillance equipments. SWIR band offers many advantages over the conventional visible (VIS, 0.4–0.7 µm) band imaging. However, the changed dispersion behavior of common optical glasses in SWIR band makes the correction of chromatic aberration in SWIR band challenging. In this paper, a dual field of view compact discrete zoom lens is presented which is designed for high-definition uncooled InGaAs detector. The designed lens operates at f/7 in both zoom positions. The effective focal length is 700 mm in narrow field of view and 140 mm in wide field of view. The paper discusses the optical performance requirements, selection of materials, possible design configurations and optical design approach and finally analyzes the optical performance of the designed lens.
