Abstract

The correspondence of optical anisotropy to magnetic anisotropy was investigated in iron films evaporated at oblique incidence. Dichroism was found irrespectively of the incidence angle and the film thickness, and its magnitude can be expressed as a linear function of the magnitude of the magnetic anisotropy. Birefringence was observed only in films evaporated at high incidence angles, and it is unlikely to correlate with the magnetic anisotropy.
