Abstract

The authors describe a method and a system for the real time acoustic monitoring of laminations and rock mechanics conditions in the reinforced roofs of underground mine roadways. The method involves the shock excitation of acoustic waves in the roof rock by a mechanical striker. The real time system is designed to incorporate various parameters such as acoustic wave propagation and velocity in given types of rocks into its output. The determination of these parameters is described.
