Abstract
Energy is an essential input in the socio-economic development of a country and world is giving attention on harnessing more and more renewable energy sources. Among all the renewable energy sources, small hydro power (SHP) is considered to be one of the most cost-effective, environmental friendly technologies for electricity generation. SHP has operational flexibility such as quick starting, stopping and load variations thus help in improving reliability of power system. In hydro power plants hydraulic turbine is an important component and it has many associateproblems which degrade its condition and efficiency and require proper operation and maintenance. So proper operating of SHP plants with time is very important factor for achieving higher efficiency of hydro turbines. After few years of operation, turbines can show declined performance due to various reasons. Main problems accurse in hydro turbine is cavitation, erosion,fatigue and material defects. In this paper various maintenance measures for smooth running of hydro turbine in SHP has been investigated.
