Abstract

The 242-mile Colorado River Aqueduct of The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California requires a highly efficient maintenance program to permit it to exceed its original design flow. Increased flow is achieved and maintained by modified centrifugal pump impellers, daily canal cleaning, well-trained and equipped maintenance crews, mobile shops, careful coordination of maintenance activities, and a card index controlled space parts inventory.
