Abstract

In 2021, a Midwestern community embraced the unexpected arrival of Afghani refugee families to a local military training facility. This subsequently impacted operations at a local children’s hospital. A multidisciplinary team collaborated to overcome obstacles related to providing care to this complex, at-risk population in a culturally sensitive manner. The hospital successfully provided high quality, culturally relevant care by acknowledging and addressing what mattered most to team members and patients during this unprecedented situation.
