Abstract

A novel La–Zr composite was prepared by one pot method in mild conditions, and it shows a high fluoride removal ability of 143 mg/g. The powders were characterized by SEM, EDS, and FTIR. The effects of various factors such as pH, the presence of coexisting anions, contacting time, and initial fluoride concentration were investigated. The equilibrium data were studied by being fitted to several isotherm models, and the kinetic data are found to be described very well by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The overall rate of fluoride adsorption is likely to be controlled by chemisorption processes. The mechanism of adsorption was discussed in detail.
