Abstract

We have investigated the magnetic properties of β -type manganese-phthalocyanine (MnPc) and lightly Li-intercalated analogue ( Li x [MnPc] with x = 0.5 and 1). DC- and AC-magnetization data as well as heat capacity data indicated that the pristine MnPc, known as a prototypical molecular ferromagnet thus far, should better be viewed as being composed of frozen ferromagnetic chains without three-dimensional ordering. Such a magnetic state with frozen ferromagnetic chains is robust against Li-doping for x ⩽ 1.
