Abstract

The formation of periodic domain structures in LiNbO3:Er3+/Yb3+ codoped crystals is reported. The crystals, grown along the c-axis using on-centered Czochralski technique, exhibit a changing morphology along the growth direction. A correspondence between morphology and the appearance of the periodic ferroelectric domain patterns has been established and attributed to the different crystal-melt interfaces and growth kinetics. The periodic domains are homogeneous with a well defined periodicity with relative deviation smaller than 5%. The results are analysed by using Micro-Raman spectroscopic techniques.
