Abstract

The developed hydrodynamic model of selective laser melting (SLM) considering shrinkage speed and the effect of the evaporation on the free surface of the melt is validated with experimental data for Ni-based powder SLM in a wide range of process parameters. The comparison of the main calculated output parameters (substrate melting depth and track width) with experimental data is held. The processing conditions with balling effect presence are also noted by the developed model.
