Abstract
The discovery of the icosahedral phase by Shechtman et al. (i) has led us into an exciting world of quasicrystals. Chattopadhyay et al. (2) reported on the variety of electron diffraction patterns from a primitive icosahedral phase of the AI-Mn system. They identified important zone axes by choosing a set of strong reflections. From the stereogram, six important zone axes were identified by the combination of relrods corresponding to the vertex, edge and face vectors of an icosahedron. Intensities were compared with those calculated from the Landau generation scheme of Nelson and Sachdev (3), where a combination of star vectors pointing to the vertices of an icosahedron sequentially generate all the reciprocal vectors, with a decrease in intensity with increasing generation number.
