Abstract

Current legislation has put strong pressure on air-fuel ratio control research for compliance with emission limits for spare ignition engines. This paper focuses on the highly nonlinear λ-sensor that is used in many systems. The main idea is to include the relay-type sensor characteristics in a nonlinear input-output model for joint state and parameter estimation. An estimation algorithm is derived that can be used for adaptive trim table buildup and internal model control schemes.
