Abstract
At Ridgeway, south-east of Crich, the ‘Rough Rock’ dips eastwards beneath the Lower Coal Measures. It is overlain immediately by the Belperlawn Coal, which is followed 40 feet higher in the sequence by the Alton Coal. The purpose of this paper is to describe the peculiar lithological development of the ‘Rough Rock’ within this region, and to amend earlier views as to the thickness of strata between the Belperlawn and Alton Coals.
