Abstract

Vecchio's (1983) comment on our recent review of Fiedler's contingency model of leadership effectiveness (Strube & Garcia, 1981) claims we are guilty of a variety of biases in selection of studies and interpretation of results. As a consequence of his socalled closer look, Vecchio suggests that a less favorable conclusion on the model's validity is warranted. However, a close examination of Vecchio's assessment indicates that the majority of his conclusions are overstated, if not misleading. We will address each in turn.
