Abstract
The photoelectron angular distributions for Cd 4d3/2,5/2 to epsilon p, epsilon f are examined. The effect of anisotropic interactions experienced by the photoelectron as it escapes from the ion core is explicitly treated using the Dill-Fano angular momentum transfer analysis. It is proposed that the incomplete treatment of the combined interchannel and spin-orbit coupling effect is responsible for the current disagreement between theory and experiment. Furthermore, the relative importance of the two effects is assessed.
