Abstract

Abstract The propagation of a non-linear ionizing electromagnetic wave along a thin plasma cylinder is investigated. Supposing that the electron density is proportional to the local absorbed power, a linear axial density profile of the discharge is analytically obtained. The discharge length determined by plasma and surface wave characteristics agrees well with experiment.
