Abstract
There are limited investigations of the alloys that involve peritectic reactions, due to its complexity. In the present study, casting experiments in a steel mold of square section were carried out in order to show a formal characterization of a zinc-based ternary alloy that has a complex microstructure. The results obtained confirm that instead of the typical structure of primary phase surrounded by peritectic phase on Zn-Ag peritectic systems, a AgZn dendritic phase, a mixture of two solid solutions (η-Zn and AgZn3), precipitates, and a eutectic-like lamellar structures with atomic ratio of Zn/Ag/Mg ~95/3/2 were observed.
