Abstract

The contribution of CH4 to the thermal opacity in the atmospheres of Uranus and Neptune is negligible owing to the low CH4 mixing ratio imposed by saturation in the radiative equilibrium regions of these atmospheres. Furthermore, that portion of the emergent flux sensitive to the He/H2 ratio is not affected significantly by the pressure-induced absorption of CH4-H2 collisions.
