Abstract

The initial value problem for the linear nonhomogeneous wave equation in two space dimensions is discretized in the usual way via centered second-order differences, with the timestep size chosen on the CFL “boundary:” $\Delta x = \Delta y = h$, $\Delta t = h\sqrt 2 $. The solution of this discrete problem is explicitly given as a functional of the data.
